Pixel Art

EPIC SNAIL PLATFORM ADVENTURE

This was my first Pixel Art game. When it comes to animations, I find pixel art a little more tedious than hand-drawn, but it can end up being a lot more consistent. On the other hand, when it comes to creating tilesets and scenery, pixel art is so much easier to work with.

Character Animations

The characters from this game were all drawn on a 16x16 grid, which is easier to handle, but more restrictive when it comes to details.

Backgrounds

The earliest version of the tileset were very basic and did not have corners, similar to the original Super Mario on the NES. However, I found this design unsatisfactory in the long run. One thing that I did incorporate with this design was using multiple layers to indicate secret passageways, indicated by a different pattern. (The background and sky patterns were placeholder resources.)

Eventually, I switched to a new tileset I created. The new tile patterns were used to create 3 distinct levels.
