Yesterday, April 6, 2027, I showcased the sequel to my game EPIC SNAIL PLATFORM ADVENTURE at Tech in Action - Regional STEAM Expo, an event presented by Clayton Valley Game Programming Academy.
The game is titled "Wander 'Lusk," a combination of "wanderlust" and "mollusk." Unlike the first game, it is not as heavily influenced by precision games and is more like Super Mario in style. What mainly sets it apart is the roguelike mechanics, as the levels you complete are selected from a random pool. The level you get can be determined by factors like finding a secret area or speedrunning a level. A demo will be completed later this year and will be playable on my blog. The full version of the game will eventually be available on Steam, as well as the demo.
As for the expo, it was a small event attended by local Bay Area schools, including University of Silicon Valley, my current school, as well as Milpitas High School, where I graduated. It was cool seeing a few students from USV, although I wouldn't have recognized anyone from MHS given that I graduated in 2020. Mark Naufel, the president of USV, was also the keynote speaker of this event. At the end of the event, I won a mousepad in a raffle.
Because I was the only USV student showcasing a game, my table was merged with the main USV booth. It felt almost as if I was representing the whole school with my game. I had several people playtest.
It wasn't as big of a networking opportunity as GDC, but I hope to participate in smaller events like this and meet with more game developers in the future.
